Art Any Way brings together work by artists who have found pure freedom of expression outside conventional norms, offering us fresh and exhilarating perspectives along the way.
From the unique coastal scenes of Alfred Wallis to the playful sculptures of David Kemp, Art Any Way features an eclectic range of artists who blur traditional boundaries and defy categorisation. The thing that unites them is their compulsion to create by any means, resulting in an exhibition full of intriguing stories of human ingenuity as well as exuberant art.
Art Any Way draws on the museum’s own collection dating from the present day back to the Renaissance and beyond. A diverse selection of works are on loan from Outside In, an award-winning national charity supporting artists who encounter significant barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance, or isolation. A selection of artists connected with Shallal, a Cornwall-based arts charity championing equity in creativity, will also take centre stage at this uplifting autumn show.
“We know that our art world is poorer when we exclude certain aspects of creativity from our shared history and experience of art making. Yet self-taught and non-traditional artists continue to face significant barriers to getting their work recognised.
That is why we’re thrilled to be partnering with Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, to bring works from Outside In’s collection to new audiences. The artworks selected demonstrate the rich variety of our collection, featuring artists employing exceptional skill to an eclectic range of materials to express themselves.” Molly Bretton, Director of Outside In.
