EVENT
To celebrate Mars: War and Peace at Truro Cathedral, embark on a Mars mission of your own this half term! A free family trail stretches across two galleries here at the museum, plus enjoy crafting activities and our sketching competition.
A short stroll from the Cathedral at Truro’s museum, enjoy this free trail and learn more about Mars the planet and Mars the Roman god. Complete the trail and win a prize! Plus, take part in a sketching competition and craft your own Mars creation to take home – something to hang on the Christmas tree perhaps?
Mars Trails will be available for free at the Welcome Desk. No booking for the trail is required, but advanced booking for the museum saves you time.
Museum entry is free for under 18s, and adult Annual Passes are £10.
The breathtaking installation at the Cathedral was created by artist Luke Jerram and made with the help of pictures from NASA. When you visit (find out more here), you’ll also see and hear clips from Martian landscapes recorded on missions to the Red Planet.
The minerals present on Mars give us important clues about how the planet has changed over time and whether there was once life there. Take part in the trail and search the Mineral Gallery for some of the minerals present on Mars.
The planet’s name comes from the Roman god of war. Ancient civilisations paid a lot of attention to the night sky, and many of their stories and beliefs connect gods and goddesses with the stars and planets. Explore the Ancient Civilisations Gallery and find out more about Mars and his fellow gods and goddesses!
